Back in the Woods and Back with the Bow
Sorry I’ve been quiet lately. Life on the home front has been busy, and when I do get away, it is usually me and @FirstMuttMiley running the woods, chasing squirrels, and checking cams.
But speaking of the woods, I have something to share. I think I may have locked onto my very first buck.
Back to the Bow
It has been three years since I pulled my bow back. Between surgeries and recovery, I knew it was not going to be easy. So I took the bow over to North American Outfitters in Highland, Illinois. Those guys were awesome. They backed the weight off for me, checked the draw length, and adjusted my peep. Simple things, but things I did not want to mess up on my own.
This morning I put it to the test. Thirty arrows from twenty yards. The sight was still dead on after all that time. Twenty six of those arrows were kill shots. The other four were close enough that a deer would not have walked away. I could not be happier. And yes, my shoulders were on fire afterward, but in that good way. That “earned it” burn. My plan is thirty arrows every morning and thirty every evening. Keep that rhythm, and I will be back up to pulling seventy pounds before long.
Meet My First Buck Candidate
Now let me introduce you to the fella who might just be my first buck and my first bow kill. There is a chance a bigger one is roaming. I caught a blurry glimpse of what looked like a giant on video, but this guy is hanging tight.
And he is locked in on the @Lip Curl Scents hemp rope mock scrape I have hanging. Both of my ropes on public land are getting action. You can see this buck making a beeline right for it. The second rope, hung up the hill where I think I spotted Zeus, is covered in does, so I know the bucks will be close behind.
This Lip Curl Scents stuff is no joke. Highly recommend.
Countdown to Opener
We are about twenty days out from the season opener. Other than the upcoming @Am Vets Outdoors event down at Lake of Egypt, my focus is one hundred percent on the woods.
Stay tuned. I have a feeling this fall is gonna be special!
